SYC-SMS Food Drive Totals!

SYC Hosts Annual SMS Food Drive Final Numbers!

SYC hosted their annual food drive at Somersworth Middle School, with some amazing results! This year the challenge was for each grade level to bring in 6 Thanksgiving baskets, otherwise known as complete Thanksgiving meals. These numbers were based off of last year's winning grade, who brought in 6 baskets.

SYC and SMS students and families went above and beyond! This year we donated a total of TWENTY FIVE (25) Thanksgiving Baskets! That's 10 more than we donated last year! PLUS two HUGE boxes of miscellaneous food items.

The race was tight with 6th grade winning by only ONE extra food basket, and 7th grade coming in a very close second. All three grades did a great job this year and should be very proud.

What does a food basket look like exactly? Each meal contained (at least):

1 Turkey

2 boxes of stuffing

1 can of cranberry sauce

1 can of gravy

1 box or bag of potatoes

4 or more cans of vegetables

A baked good item (i.e. cake mix, pumpkin pie filling)

and many contained a roasting pan

Somersworth Middle School students should feel proud to know that their empathy and passion have helped make the holiday complete for families who struggle to put a Thanksgiving meal on the table. Thank you, students, for helping to make home feel like HOME.

All food was donated to the Community Food Pantry in Somersworth located at 176 W High Street, in the First Parish Church. Phone number (603) 692-2907.
