SYC at the Middle School
About the Middle School Program
SYC provides a fun, exciting, safe, and healthy environment for middle school students to enjoy afterschool. Here students get to participate in clubs and enrichments of their choosing, that as a student body they create!
Students learn what it means to be a leader, to belong, and to have a sense of community. This age group in particular enagages with the community through a variety of service projects, and service related enrichments.
SYC collaborates with middle school students to host a variety of events throughout the year both for the students and the community, including:
SMS Halloween Dance
Family Game Night
Annual Chess Tournament
SMS Talent Show
as well as participate in MANY more!
Program runs Monday-Friday
2:30-2:45 Community Meeting/Snack
2:45-3:30 ELS Zone
3:30-4:00 Nutritious Meal
4:00-5:00 Enrichments (Clubs)

We find that costs can be a barrier to a safe and engaging place for students after school at the middle school, therefore there is absolutely no cost for SYC at the middle school. This includes ELS/Academic support, a snack/meal, and enrichments/clubs!
Students need to come to ELS Zone every day prepared with something to do. If they do not have any classwork assigned, they may bring a book. or another quiet activity.
Options for activities in ELS Zone:
Work on ELS
Study for quizzes/assessments
Work on products/projects
Staff-approved individual research
Reading of any kind
Transportation and Dismissal
SMS offers a "Late Bus" for all students who stay after school that picks up about 3:45 pm for students staying for ELS/Academic support. However there is no transportation after program, which ends at 5:30. Parents will choose whether or not their student has permission to walk home after program, or if they will be picked up by 5:30 each day. Students will not be released to individuals who are not on the pick-up list, unless permission has been given to staff. Students who are listed as non-walkers will not be released to walk unless parent specifies with SYC staff beforehand.
Winter Dismissal Information:
In the event that school releases early, or after school activities are cancelled for the day, SYC is also cancelled. Parents are then responsible for making sure their student has a way to safely get home from school that day. Please make sure your child is also aware of the plan!
