About SYC

We provide out-of-schooltime social, emotional, and academic supports to students through fun, exciting, and enriching activities lead by certified teachers, counselors, and other professionals.

A Letter From the Director

Somersworth was selected as a recipient of the 21st Century Community Learning Center project through the Department of Education to develop, plan and implement an after school and summer learning program for school youth grades 1-8. The creation & development of Youth Connection has been a collaborative effort through the Somersworth School District and HUB Family Resource Center.

Through this project a variety of academic and homework support, health and nutrition education, fitness and wellness activities, enrichment programs and community service projects are offered and available to encourage, support and foster the development of our youth academically, physically and socially. The intent of Somersworth Youth Connection is to provide a positive, safe, healthy and enriching environment that will serve to inspire, motivate, challenge and stimulate our youth.

Somersworth Youth Connection opened its doors on October 1, 2007. It follows the school calendar and is followed by a 5 week Sizzlin’ SYC Summer Learning program. Youth Connection is held at the Somersworth Middle School Monday through Friday from 2:30pm-5:30pm and at Idlehurst Elementary School Monday through Friday from 2:45pm - 6:00pm.

SYC offers opportunities for parents and families to interact, experience, learn, share, and have fun. We encourage, support and are committed to providing families with activities, events and workshops that promote family involvement, address adolescent development, communication skills and foster positive healthy relationships with families.

The success of the program is due to the involvement and support of those in our community: individuals, parents, families and schools, along with the many businesses who volunteer time and share talents to make a difference with our youth.

We’re funded in part by a 21st CCLC grant, program fees, and business donations. All program fees, donations, and fundraising will go towards sustainability of the program.
